Das Formular wirkt auf den ersten Blick seriös: Sterne, die an die EU erinnern, und Verweise auf Aktenzeichen geben dem Fax eine amtliche Note – und als Terminsache, die bis zum 25. März erledigt werden soll, setzt das Schreiben seinen Empfänger zusätzlich unter Druck. Aber Vorsicht: Das Angebot des „Europäischen Zentralregisters zur Erfassung und Veröffentlichung von Umsatzsteuer-Identifikationsnummern“ fällt nach Einschätzung der Industrie- und Handelskammern in den Bereich der betrügerischen Datenbankangebote. Denn wer das Kleingedruckte liest, stellt schnell fest, dass es sich um einen kostenpflichtigen Eintrag handelt, der nicht nur 890 Euro pro Jahr kostet, sondern auch direkt für zwei Jahre vertraglich festgelegt wird.

Hinter dieser Betrugsmasche steckt laut Impressum ein Unternehmen namens „Company Data S.P.R.L.” mit Sitz in Brüssel. Solche Registrierungsangebote gab es in der Vergangenheit bereits von anderen Anbietern, meist ebenfalls mit belgischem Firmensitz. Obgleich das Formular amtlich wirkt, sollten sich Empfänger nicht täuschen lassen und das Schreiben am besten direkt wegwerfen. Generell ist es ratsam, solche Briefe genau durchzulesen und auch das Kleingedruckte nicht zu übersehen.
Formular unterschrieben? Anfechtung
Sollten Sie den Vordruck bereits unterschrieben haben, weil Sie glaubten, damit lediglich Ihre Daten zu bestätigen, sollten Sie die verlangte Gebühr zunächst vorsorglich nicht bezahlen. Wenden Sie sich in solchen Fällen lieber an einen Anwalt, der den Vertrag anfechten lassen kann.
